2018 Walk to Defeat ALS

October 6th, 2018
Raley Field
West Sacramento, CA

The 2018 Walk to Defeat ALS was an awesome event, and we thank you for helping us achieve our 2018 goal! Every dollar donated makes a huge difference in the programs and services offered by The ALS association, Greater Sacramento Chapter.
Every year we have an estimated 600 people walk through our doors looking for support group meetings, information, resources and referrals, specialized ALS medical care at one of our Certified Centers of Excellence, loaned durable medical equipment, speech communication devices, and patient & caregiver grants. All of these programs and services are vital lifelines to the ALS community, and as the only organization in the Greater Sacramento Region providing these services, your support and donations are what makes it all come to life. The more dollars we raise, the more we're able to accomplish, and the closer we'll be to fulfilling our vision of a world without ALS.
We thank you for your donations. If you have additional donations you would like to make in support of the Sacramento Chapter Walk to Defeat ALS Team, please click below.

A Great Read for the ALS Community!

laugh to death  Laugh to Death: My Rx for Dying Well with ALS, a collection of funny vignettes, chronicles a doctor’s end-of-life journey with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Welsh’s unique outlook as a doctor-turned-patient, while at times serious and somber, is more often hilarious, if not irreverent. Throughout—from the time of his self-diagnosis until his passing six years later—Martin F. Welsh, M.D., reveals how a terminally ill person’s attitude can profoundly affect their quality of life. Every patient, family member, caregiver, and health care provider will benefit from his unique perspective of a doctor becoming a patient and ultimately a teacher. Laugh to Death is a powerful tribute to the resiliency of the human spirit.

The book is now available for purchase at laughtodeathmyrx.com.

A very special thanks to Maureen Gill for her generous donation of books to the ALS community in Sacramento.  The reviews from pALS and cALS has been overwhelming and they are thankful for her generosity, and above everything else, they are grateful for the keen and witty insights of how to make a very difficult conversation in the ALS community a little easier.
