I hope you all are staying safe and healthy during these difficult times. It’s been a challenging year for everyone but we will get through this. We all are going through one of the most challenging times of our lives however, picture this, your loved one has a disease such as ALS that has no cure. And add the threat of Covid 19 to that. Not just for the patient, but also the caregivers and family members. I think about this often. It was difficult keeping Steve as safe as possible from common colds, flus and viruses that could be life threatening and cannot imagine adding Covid 19 to that mix.
For those of you who knew my husband Steve, he was an amazing man with an incredible love of life. He had a giving heart and helped anyone and everyone in need. His sense of humor and smile would brighten your day. Throughout his battle with ALS, he was never angry, bitter or complained yet he fought a very courageous battle. He filled our 15 years together with a lifetime of amazing memories that I will cherish forever.
Steven was diagnosed with ALS just a little more than 7 years ago. We knew that the life expectancy for ALS patients is 2 - 5 years. Steve passed away less than two years from the date he was diagnosed.
Over the past 7 years, Team Bellino has participated in the Walk to Defeat ALS at Raley Field as Team Bellino. One of Steve’s mottos was “Never Give Up”. Team Bellino will “Never Give Up”. ALS Association will “Never Give Up”. We will walk again and continue to fundraise in order to support the ALS Association Greater Sacramento Chapter. They are instrumental for support, guidance and resources and continue to research so one day there will be a cure.
Donations are essential to continue the support of PALS (People with ALS), CALS (their Caregivers) especially now during these trying times. It’s been a difficult fundraising year this year and they need us now more than ever! I realize that the pandemic has cause financial hardship for some, however I am asking for your support and donations.
Team Bellino will be participating in the Walk to Defeat ALS, however not at Raley Field (a much smaller venue, outside). We are being creative and found a super cool safe way to walk, practice social distancing….and to have our usual TEAM BELLINO FUN! And yes, we have a theme! If you are able to join us, please contact me and I will fill you in on the details.
Thank you ALL for your years of support, donations and love.
In parting, I would like to remind everyone of Steve’s creed: "Be kind, gentle, compassionate, understanding, thankful, thoughtful, patient, forgiving, helpful, honest, fair, and generous. Treat everyone equally as I wish I were treated. Always give 110% and never give up! Recognize life's mistakes and try to patch the wounds. Always speak from my heart. Appreciate every day that God has given me on earth and recognize that life is a gift of Love." Yes, Steve most definitely lived his creed everyday.
With sincere gratitude and appreciation,
P.S. Please also be sure to check to see if your employer is on our “Match” program (www.matchinggifts.com/als), and if they are, they will match your donation! Very cool!
